The Stooges Brass Band will bring the brass sounds from New Orleans merged with Hip Hop, funk, and R&B to the Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC. The award-winning band was selected by the U.S. State Department in 2012 to serve as cultural ambassadors on tour in Pakistan, and have since been consistently providing a welcome blast of true New Orleans spirit while engaging audiences with their innovative blend of traditional New Orleans brass sounds, contemporary jazz and hip-hop beats. The Millennium Stage was created and underwritten by James A. Johnson and Maxine Isaacs to make the performing arts accessible to everyone in fulfillment of the Kennedy Center’s mission to its community and the nation.

Annual Gala: Ella at 100 – Forever the First Lady of Song

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2017 Annual Fundraising Gala is a one-night-only centennial celebration of the First Lady of Song – Ella Fitzgerald.  This year’s gala will be hosted by the one and only Harry Connick, Jr., and some of the greatest vocalists alive will take the stage to honor Ella. Featured artists include Renée Fleming, Roberta Gambarini, Diana Krall, Alison Krauss, Marilyn Maye, Audra McDonald, Camille Thurman, Kenny Washington, and Cécile McLorin Salvant in duet with pianist Sullivan Fortner. This remarkable group of musicians represents the vast history and future of jazz, and it’s one of the best lineups of vocalists to ever share a stage. The show will be anchored by New York’s House Band – the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Also, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Award for Artistic Excellence to NEA Jazz Master, tenor saxophone titan Benny Golson will be presented. Certainly a webcast not to be missed!

The All-Star Global Concert brings together a stellar lineup of international artists representing jazz and many other genres of music, for a performance that spans styles, cultures and languages. The 2017 All-Star Global Concert will feature more than two dozen renowned artists representing 14 countries, including Ambrose Akinmusire (United States), Carl Allen (United States), Marc Antoine (France), Richard Bona (Cameroon), Till Brönner (Germany), A Bu (China), Igor Butman (Russian Federation), Bobby Carcassés (Cuba), Regina Carter (United States), Kurt Elling (United States), Kenny Garrett (United States), Herbie Hancock (United States), Antonio Hart (United States), Takuya Kuroda (Japan), Ivan Lins (Brazil), Sixto Llorente (Cuba), Marcus Miller (United States), Youn Sun Nah (Republic of Korea), Julio Padrón (Cuba), Gianluca Petrella (Italy), Gonzalo Rubalcaba (Cuba), Antonio Sánchez (Mexico), Christian Sands (United States), Esperanza Spalding (United States), Chucho Valdés (Cuba), Ben Williams (United States), Tarek Yamani (Lebanon), Dhafer Youssef (Tunisia), and others to be announced. In the spirit of International Jazz Day, each year’s All-Star Global Concert takes place in a landmark venue with rich historical significance both to the Global Host City and to the hosting nation. The 2017 All-Star Global Concert will take place in the historic Gran Teatro de la Habana Alicia Alonso, one of the world’s leading performing arts centers and the oldest theater in Latin America. Originally built in 1838 as the Teatro Tacón, the Gran Teatro has presented top performers from around the world and currently houses the National Ballet of Cuba and the Havana International Ballet Festival. Located in the heart of Old Havana, the building recently reopened after an extensive restoration. It will provide an extraordinary setting for the highly anticipated, culminating performance of International Jazz Day 2017.
