Christian Sands Trio with Special Guests

Christian Sands is only 28 years old, but he’s been playing piano for the past 26 years and has five Grammy Award nominations under his belt, including Best Latin Jazz Piano Solo. Wynton Marsalis named him a “jazz star of the future,” and he spent years as the pianist in Christian McBride’s trio. Tonight’s show will feature Yasushi Nakamura, Jerome Jennings, and to-be-announced special guests performing a combination of originals and standards. Sands’ stylistic range includes stride piano, swing, bebop, progressive jazz, fusion, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban, so expect to hear a versatile set from this rising star live from Jazz at Lincoln Center.

New Kingston is a progressive reggae group whose members combine their Jamaican heritage with the urban sounds of their New York home, New Kingston are a family band consisting of brothers Tahir, Courtney Jr., and Stephen along with their father, Courtney Panton, Sr. A first-generation Jamaican-American, Courtney the elder was active in New York’s reggae scene before turning his sons on to the music of their island heritage. Born out of jam sessions in the family’s Brooklyn basement, the brothers began their career playing Bob Marley and Earth, Wind & Fire covers at parties and gatherings around the neighborhood. Don’t miss them performing live from KEXP in Seattle, WA.
